The son of a hit-and-run drunk driving accident published a national petition criticizing the harsh punishment of the perpetrator and poor initial police investigation.

On the 28th, a petition was posted on the public petition bulletin board on the Cheongwadae website with the title “Please severely punish the police and unscrupulous perpetrators who lacked an initial investigation of alcohol accidents in the city. highway”.

The petitioner, who revealed that he was the victim’s son, said: “On June 22, around 1:40 am, a vehicle that was driving drunk collided with the vehicle of his parents who were heading to the field.” “The mother who was in the passenger seat died in the accident and went to the driver’s seat.” He said: “My father was diagnosed with a serious spinal cord injury and was paralyzed.

“At the time, the police were handling the accident with only the facts based on the perpetrator’s statement, and there was no further investigation into the details of the accident,” he said. “Even the perpetrator appoints a lawyer on the day of the accident without injuries, He said that he was in a state to return home and that the investigation was underway, even though it was an accident due to drinking.

He said: “I asked the inspector in charge, ‘Is the black box secured?’ But we didn’t even check where our vehicle was, the victim.” He said: “I asked him about the condition of our vehicle and the black box.” It was not even verified at the time, and personally I found our car that was completely damaged, and I looked for all the damaged cars for a while to ensure a black box. ” .

According to the petitioner, when asked about CCTV at the scene of the accident, the investigator said: ‘If there was a CCTV at the scene of the accident, it would have been handed over by the highway patrol, but they did not receive it. I’ll check.’ Further, the petitioner said: “I directly verified that the roadside CCTV was installed at the accident site and asked the investigator in charge to secure the CCTV”, when the exact accident did not occur even after a long time. The investigator in charge was reported to later tell the petitioner: “We have secured the CCTV video and it appears that additional hit-and-run charges may apply.”

The petitioner said: “If I had not asked for a CCTV check, I would not have known if I was run over or fled to death. It is terrible to think that my mother’s wrongful death would have been treated as a simple traffic accident.”

Furthermore, “the perpetrator is said not to admit the blatant hit-and-run charges even after reviewing the CCTV video.”

In the end, he said, “I ask the perpetrator to impose the most severe punishment according to the law, so that it can be a little comforting for my mother in heaven and for my father who is still suffering harsh treatment.” He appealed: “I hope that people who have nearly made a lifelong hit-and-run case buried by insufficient measures without doing so will also be subjected to a strict investigation and punishment.”

This petition received the consent of 113,371 people at 9:22 am on the 31st.

The police explained that the driver of the victim vehicle was at the scene of the accident and could not think of escaping, and also recognized the fact of the accident, such as driving while intoxicated, that he did not feel the need to check the black box of the vehicle damaged.
