The 36th International Hospital Equipment and Medical Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2021) is Korea’s largest medical equipment exhibition, held every year and held throughout the COEX showroom for 4 days from 18 to twenty-one.
The medical device industry is a promising and high-growth industry that is growing rapidly at an annual average of around 10% every year.In particular, exports are increasing significantly, mainly for quarantine products such as in vitro diagnostic devices after of the Corona 19 pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the size of the domestic market is increasing from 6.2 trillion won in 2017 to 6.8 trillion won in 2018 and 7.8 trillion won in 2019. Exports also increased to $ 3.99 billion in 2018 , $ 3.96 billion in 2019 and $ 5.73 billion last year.
This visit was designed to explore the latest trends in the medical device industry, listen to voices from the field, and seek the direction of the development of the national medical device industry, and was conducted in accordance with social distancing and quarantine guidelines. .
Vice Minister Yang Sung-il visited corporate support centers such as the ‘Korea Medical Device Integration Exhibition Center’ and the ‘Integrated Consultation Office for Medical Device Market Entry’ operated by the Industry Promotion Agency Korea Health Ministry, confirming the performance of the government’s support so far, and calling for active support.
In December, he visited exhibition booths such as MECCS, I-Sense and Mediana, which are the first innovative medical device companies certified by the Ministry of Welfare, to experience great home medical devices and hear the opinions of corporate officials.
First Deputy Minister Yang Sung-il said: “Our medical device companies demonstrated the excellence of K-quarantine despite the global COVID-19 crisis and achieved exceptional growth in the field of in vitro diagnostics. To take the Corona 19 pandemic to the next level, we will establish a medium and long-term innovation strategy for medical devices during this year to prepare a systematic plan to promote the medical device industry and create an environment in which medical institutions can use excellent home medical devices. “
