More than 200 million vaccines worldwide …
Prefer digital methods like ‘Green Card’ and ‘Smart Yellow Card’
There are advantages such as economic revitalization, but the controversy over discrimination intensifies
The number of vaccinations for the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), which began in December last year, has exceeded 200 million times. Meanwhile, countries around the world have decided to issue passports to people who have been vaccinated against Corona 19.
What is a vaccine passport? I can’t even use my old passport, but is it a new passport? What effect would it have?
2.58% of the world population is vaccinated
First, as a result of the current COVID-19 vaccinations counted up to 20 (local time) around the world, a total of 248.84 million have been carried out. Given that the world population is about 7.8 billion people and that most of them, with the exception of some vaccines, including Janssen’s, must be administered twice, statistics show that 2.58% have received the vaccine.
So far, by country, the United States has the largest number of vaccines with 61.29 million doses. The vaccination rate relative to the population is 18.5%. China was followed 40.52 million times, the European Union (EU) 27 countries with 26.09 million times, the United Kingdom 17.8 million times and Israel 7.13 million times.
In Israel, 49% of the 9.3 million people were vaccinated more than once. The number of people who completed the second vaccination was 2.6 million, or 31% of the people. The rate of prevention of fever and respiratory problems among vaccinated people is 98% and the rate of hospitalization and death is 98.9%.
However, the voice of disbelief in the vaccine is harsh. On the 5th of last month, Time magazine reported that in a survey conducted last month by the Pew Research Center, about 40% of those surveyed said they would not receive the vaccine even if it were possible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
In France, in November last year, Ipsos and the World Economic Forum (WEF) polls jointly surveyed the percentage of people willing to get vaccinated in 15 major countries last month, which was very low, 54%.
Can only the vaccinated enter?
Despite the effectiveness of the vaccination, the Israeli government decided on the 20th to issue a ‘Green Pass’, also known as a vaccine passport, to people who had been vaccinated against Corona 19, as the atmosphere of hesitation or concern.
According to the AFP news agency, since 21, Israel opened some cultural facilities such as gyms, swimming pools and hotels conditionally. It is said that only people with a green pass can enter. This equates to 2.5 million people who completed the second vaccination a week ago and 700,000 people who recovered from Corona 19.
In addition to Greece, some countries are currently working on the introduction of a vaccine passport similar to the Green Pass.
Greece urged the EU to “introduce a vaccination certificate that allows vaccinated people to move freely.” Estonia and the United Nations Health Organization are creating an electronic vaccine certificate known as a ‘Smart Yellow Card’.
Denmark is developing a digital passport for vaccines. Spain is creating a database of vaccine rejects (DB) to share with the EU. Australian airline Qantas says travelers will eventually have to prove vaccination in order to board the flight.
There is hope that freedom of movement and economic activity will be activated when such a vaccine passport is created and its use activated.
Israel has agreed to allow citizens of both countries with vaccination certificates to travel freely with Cyprus. Israel is said to have reached a similar agreement with Greece last week. Currently, Mediterranean countries are struggling to reactivate tourism affected by COVID-19.
Discrimination against those who cannot receive the vaccine due to disability, pregnancy, etc.
However, it is noted that this trend can lead to discrimination against people who do not receive the vaccine.
For example, people who cannot get the vaccine due to disability, pregnancy, religious reasons, etc., have limited freedom of movement. The World Travel and Tourism Commission said: “Restarting travel abroad should be based on a negative test rather than a vaccine-focused plan.”
“Vaccine passports can lead to unfair dismissal and discrimination,” said Ella Bond, a UK labor lawyer. “For example, for nursing home staff and those in a position that requires traveling abroad to work, those who have a vaccination passport” Separating people from those who do not can result in employment discrimination. ”
