After the massive infection in the East Seoul Detention Center, there are many prisoners who left the detention center.

As a result of YTN’s coverage, there were people who walked the streets instead of quarantining themselves even though they were close contacts.

It turns out that the detention center didn’t even notify him to quarantine him.

Mr. A, who was released last month when the number of confirmed patients at the Eastern Detention Center increased by hundreds.

As soon as I got out, I went on a trip to Gangwon-do for 2 days and 1 night with my friends.

I went to a big mall and a karaoke room.

However, as soon as I opened my cell phone and contacted my family immediately after the trip, I was confused.

Quarantine authorities urgently found him, saying that Mr. A was a self-isolating subject who had contacted the confirmed patient.

However, Mr. A said that he was not notified when he was released.

[A 씨 / 지난달 동부구치소 출소자 : 전화하자마자 큰소리가 나더라고요. 그래서 왜 그러냐, 했더니 너 밀접접촉자로 분류됐는데 왜 말도 안 하고 어딜 돌아 다니느냐, 돌아다니면 안 된다는 소리 하는데, 저는 나올 때 아무런 공지를 받은 게 없어요.]

Other prisoners released at the same time as Mr. A were no different.

In some cases, after leaving the detention center, I met my family and acquaintances and received a notice of self-isolation five days later.

[A 씨 / 지난달 동부구치소 출소자 : 혹시나 해서 전화를 해보니, 아니나다를까 저와 똑같은 상황이더라고요. 출소할 때는 똑같이 공지 받은 건 전혀 없고. 자유롭게 돌아다니다가 확진 판정이 났을 경우에는 무증상으로 다 전파가 되는 건데….]

I asked the Justice Department how this absurd thing happened.

An official from the Ministry of Justice explained that if he identifies himself as a contact, he orients himself when the person is released.

However, there are criticisms that it should have been thoroughly guided to quarantine all prisoners seen as contacts.

This is because there are cases like Mr. A’s where it is difficult to connect even if the local government contacts him after his release.

[천은미 / 이대목동병원 호흡기내과 교수 : 당시에는 계속 나오잖아요. 계속 n차 감염 나오니까 무조건 구치소에서 나갔으면 그분은 밖에 가서도 밀접접촉자에 준해서 격리를 해야 되는 거죠. 최소한 2주 이상.]

The Ministry of Justice is known to be considering conducting additional PCR testing prior to its launch.

It seems difficult to avoid accusations that the Justice Ministry bowed and apologized only after the infection spread to more than a thousand people.
