[사회]67 additional confirmed individuals at the Eastern Detention Center … “Weekly antigen test performed by prison staff”

Dozens of confirmed patients also went to the East Seoul Detention Center, where group infections continue.

In order to prevent the spread of infection in prisons, the government decided to conduct a comprehensive investigation in more than 40 prisons and have prison employees undergo rapid antigen tests every week.

Again there was a group of confirmed patients from the East Seoul Detention Center where the group infection was in progress.

Scores of additional inmates were confirmed in the sixth total inspection of 767 people, including inmates and employees.

Confirmed patients also came from Gangwon Yeongwol Prison and Gangwon North Prison, where prisoners were being transferred.

As a result, the cumulative number of patients in correctional facilities across the country exceeded 1,200.

As the group infection of the eastern detention center continued, the government took steps to quarantine the correctional facilities separately.

First, the eastern detention center, which had been saturated with inmates, said it had lowered its acceptance from 117% to 63% through five transfers.

In addition, when a confirmed person leaves a high-rise correctional facility such as the East Seoul Detention Center, it was decided to pre-emptively transfer non-contact persons.

Along with this, it was decided to immediately carry out a full inspection at 11 correctional institutions, including the Suwon and Incheon detention centers, and then the other 41 correctional facilities across the country.

Additionally, employees at correctional facilities across the country who commute to work are subject to weekly rapid antigen testing to block the influx of infectious diseases.

Currently, the government has designated 15 hospitals dedicated to treating patients in correctional facilities and is operating ‘North Gyeongbuk Prison 2’ as a life treatment center.

The Justice Ministry stressed that it will do everything possible to prevent further group infections from occurring in prisons, including strengthening on-site inspections of prisons.
