On the first day of the new year, the number of confirmed cases in Korea increased slightly from the previous day and surpassed 1,000 again in two days.

The 1,000-person-a-day trend, which started in the middle of last month, is not breaking.

There were almost 700 confirmed cases in the metropolitan area and more than 300 people left in non-metropolitan areas.

In the last week there have been a thousand new cases a day.

The average number of confirmed cases per day in Korea, which is a key indicator of the distancing stage, is 976, which is also close to 1,000.

Group infection continued in nursing hospitals, facilities, and factories, and the number of confirmed cases in correctional institutions across the country increased sharply.

Quarantine authorities see the situation as a “stalemate” with the number of confirmed cases neither increasing nor decreasing.

For this reason, some predict that it may take two to three months to reduce the size of confirmed cases by more than half.

Tomorrow, one day before the end of the ‘special quarantine measures for the end of the year and New Year’, the government will announce a plan to adjust the distance steps.

There is a high possibility that it will not be raised again to the third stage, considering the social and economic burden.

However, there is the possibility of extending the ban to groups of 5 or more, including phase 2.5 of the metropolitan area, to curb the trend of continued expansion.
