Seoul City “Calls for Urgent Participation in Essential Workforce”
As the group infection spreads in nursing care and facilities for the disabled vulnerable to the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), an emergency was necessary to secure caregivers.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, on the 31st, the Seoul Social Services Service announced the hiring of ‘Crown Emergency Care Workers 19’, which regularly recruits nursing care workers under the age of 60 and incumbent of the license to support activities with disabilities.
Recently, as the number of confirmed patients left vulnerable facilities such as Guro-gu Misodeul Medical Center (192 people in total), Songpa-gu Living Facilities for the Disabled (65 people in total), Care Facilities Dongdaemun-gu social for the elderly (32 people) and Yangcheon-gu Nursing Center II (14 people), care workers Demand skyrocketed.
As there are many confirmed patients and residents with limited mobility in the facility, it is essential to secure not only medical staff, but also nursing staff, but due to the rapid increase in confirmed cases, it is difficult to care for patients with existing staff alone .
Additionally, when unconfirmed patients at the facility are classified and transferred to quarantine facilities or other hospitals, additional care workers are required in consideration of shift work. Without the support of care staff, quarantine and transfer will be delayed and the number of confirmed cases will increase or response will become more difficult.
The service staff plans to increase the staff pool, which is currently 60 people, to 200 by adding 140 people. The treatment is KRW 21,046 per working hour (1.5 times the bonus paid on weekends and holidays), separate risk allocation when sent to the same group quarantine center and treatment hospital for confirmed patients, and support for living wages and accommodation in Seoul during the period of self-isolation after leaving the facility. The serving staff said it was fine.
However, the number of applicants is currently only about 10, so it is not easy to recruit. This is because close contact is unavoidable in the process of dealing with patients and residents, making it difficult to completely rule out the “risk of infection.”
A service official said: “Even patients who have been diagnosed with negative isolation and self-isolation will likely be confirmed in the future, so there is no reluctance.” “Wear protective clothing and provide care services under strict preventive rules.”
The Seoul Metropolitan Government called for participation, citing a labor shortage. Seoul Quarantine Control Officer Park Yoo-mi also said in a regular briefing on the day, “The Guro-gu Public Health Center has issued a public announcement to recruit separate caregivers from the city of Seoul and it is recruiting applicants, but many people are not applying, “he said. “We ask for a large number of related workers to come.” .
