The cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in the East Seoul Detention Center increased to 515. Of the confirmed cases, 376 are collectively transferred to a prison in Cheongsong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and will be treated in a private room until healed.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 28th, the number of confirmed patients in the Dongbu Detention Center at 0am on the same day was 488 prisoners, 21 employees and 6 prisoners. This is an increase of 5 people (4 interns and 1 employee) compared to the previous day.
The Dongbu Detention Center carried out a third full-time inspection of all employees and prisoners, except those with confirmed cases the day before. According to prison authorities, 376 of the confirmed patients at the East Detention Center were transferred to the second prison in North Gyeongsang Province (also known as Cheongsong Prison) this morning. All those transferred to Cheongsong Prison are held alone and returned to Dongbu Detention Center after being diagnosed with a cure. The Ministry of Justice previously transferred approximately 470 of the existing prisoners across the country in order to turn 500 private rooms at Cheongsong Prison into a vital treatment center for prisoners.
Cheongsong Prison plans to mobilize 14 medical staff (5 doctors and 9 nurses) and about 200 employees on campus for intensive treatment. Regarding the concerns of local residents, the Justice Ministry emphasized the position that “we will completely cut off the spread of the community.”

Excluding the 376 people who were transferred, 112 confirmed patients remained at the East Detention Center due to reasons such as underlying illness and old age. The detention center is considering a plan to request the suspension of the execution of the sentence or the execution of the detention for some of these prisoners while they are in internal treatment.
