In order to encourage quarantine measures during the end of the year and the New Year period, we also created a symbolic phrase, “The Republic of Korea paused.”

First, it is Seoul.

Myeongdong Cathedral appears to be a very different Christmas Eve.

Yes, this place got very cold as the night wore on.

Still, as you can see behind me, citizens continue to leave Christmas memories.

Of course, compared to last year, the number of citizens on the streets is very small, so it seems to be weak.

At Myeong-Dong Catholic Cathedral, the ‘manger etiquette’ takes place every year at midnight on Christmas, where the baby Jesus is placed in a manger.

Lots of people used to get together to see this.

This year it is scheduled to be held privately, so the number of people visiting this place has decreased significantly.

In particular, today’s Christmas Mass, celebrated at the office of Cardinal Sujeong Yeom, is held not face to face for the first time.

Reporters and even believers cannot enter the cathedral.

The situation is similar in Protestant churches.

As face-to-face events were completely suspended, several events were canceled on Christmas Eve.

The streets are expected to get busier as restaurants will close starting at 9pm a little later.

“At 9 o’clock, the restaurant is also closed, so I think I’ll go home and spend time with my family.”

The Salvation Army charity pot is also having a tough Christmas season as citizens are less visited.

During the day the number of citizens who came and went more than usual increased and donations increased a bit, but compared to the previous year, the number has dropped a lot.

“Street fundraising has dropped by about 25%. To further encourage people to raise money, we organized a gift giving event.”

Christmas Eve, where you can have a noisy time with your family, friends and lovers, is happening more calmly than ever.
