During this severe winter season, a report came in that all the security guards had lost their jobs at the same time in an apartment in Gyeonggi-do.

Since the consignment security company has changed, it means leaving, but the security guards who have worked without any problem even though the company has changed several times over 10 years are claiming that it is an unfair dismissal.

In front of an apartment management office in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Security guards with placards and pickets gathered to condemn the representative and the manager.

When they get a notice from the newly selected shipping security company saying the contract has expired, they will only work until the end of this month and will shut down.

“You worked hard, but now you’re fired, what storm is this?”

The 14 security guards who have worked in this apartment for an average of 10 years have been notified of layoffs in the last 14 days.

Even if the company has changed several times, the security guards who have worked without problems are absurd as they lose their jobs in an instant.

I wonder how I will live next month.

[박성수 / 경비원 : 뭐 때문에 경비원들을 내보내는지 설명을 아무것도 안 해줬어요. 그동안 업체가 여러 군데 바뀌었어요. 바뀌어도 고용승계는 다 했고….] [경비원 A 씨 : 막막하고 당연하고 가족한테도 볼 면목이 없고 지금 시점에서 그만둔다 할지라도 다른 데 가서 일자리 구하는 게 쉽지가 않지 않습니까?]

All residents also signed a letter stating that they opposed the dismissal.

However, former chairman Dong criticizes current representatives for handing over responsibility to the consignment company.

[김종동 / 전 입주자대표회장 : 4∼5번 업체가 바뀌었어도 이분들의 생존권은 당연히 승계되어 지금까지 왔고, 자기들이 의결을 해놓고 선정해놓고 누굴 찾아가서 어떻게 하라는 얘기입니까?]

There have also been whistleblowers who claim that this time all the security guards were fired from the selection process of a company.

[전형수 / 현 입주자대표회의 감사 : 나이가 고령에 70 이상 되는 사람은 곤란하지 않으냐, 교체도 생각해봐야 하지 않느냐 그런 얘기도 나왔습니다.]

The industry also noted that firing all security guards is a rare case.

[위탁 경비업체 관계자 : 조금 질이 안 좋은 경비원들 계시면 정리하고 그렇지 않으면 큰 문제 없으면 다 같이 끌고 갔죠. 그분들도 다 먹고살아야 하는데 우리가 얻었다고 해서 일방적으로 다 잘라버리면 (안 되죠.)]

Most security guards aged 70 and over meet once or twice a day to ask for more work, but cannot find any measures.

It’s a winter where it’s harder to know where to find a new job this winter.
