Securing beds of national university hospitals and advanced general hospitals
Strengthening incentives for participation as a private hospital dedicated to infectious diseases
When the government expressed concern about the collapse of the medical system due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the ‘third pandemic’, it quickly began to secure beds.
The Central Headquarters for Disaster Countermeasures and Security announced on the 20th that during the last week it has secured 4,072 beds in 20 life treatment centers, 14 hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases, 640 beds and 18 beds for critical patients and 80 beds for patients. semi-critical.
Dedicated infectious disease hospitals secured 984 beds (36.4% compared to 2,700 safety targets) and 93 beds (31.0% compared to 300 safety targets) for critically ill patients. As a result, the hospital bed utilization rate of hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases also decreased by 0.1 percentage points from 77.8% to 77.7% during the last week. However, the rate of use of treatment beds for seriously ill patients increased by approximately 1.7 percentage points from 96.7% to 98.4%.
The expansion of the workforce is also ongoing. Over the past week, 106 physicians, 234 nurses and 214 health personnel, including clinical pathologists and nursing assistants, have been dispatched to medical institutions and life treatment centers to support medical fields.
In addition to the existing hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases, it is also expanding a dedicated hospital bases that focus on treating Corona 19 patients. The Ilsan Hospital of the Health Insurance Corporation plans to convert all beds to dedicated beds for the Corona 19 treatment, and more than half of the Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital will also become dedicated hospitals as a base. Private hospitals such as Pyeongtaek Park Ae Hospital, Namyangju Hyundai Hospital, Sooncheonhyang Bucheon Hospital and Daejeon Armed Forces Hospital and Daegu Armed Forces Hospital will also participate.
In order to secure additional beds for critically ill patients, on the 18th it was ordered to secure more than 1% of the authorized beds for 17 national university hospitals and 42 high-level private hospitals as dedicated treatment beds for seriously ill patients. Taking into account the time required for all patients, the script is expected to add more than 318 beds in total, with 237 beds in hospitals for the elderly (excluding the National University) and 81 beds in the National University Hospital by 26.
Support will also be expanded so that medical institutions participating in the Corona 19 response can engage in patient care. In particular, when a private hospital is designated as a dedicated infectious disease hospital by strengthening incentives to participate as a dedicated infectious disease hospital, around 5 billion won (based on 300 beds) are immediately provided to support quick opening.
Standards for admission to life treatment centers and standards for all hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases were also improved. First of all, since the 18th, healthy older people who do not need hospital treatment have been improved so that they can enter the life treatment center. Previously, patients over 65 years of age were excluded from admission to the Life Therapy Center, but even elderly patients who do not have underlying chronic diseases or require oxygen therapy with oxygen saturation below 90, may enter the Life Therapy Center at the discretion of the medical staff . Changed for power. Furthermore, even if there is an underlying chronic disease, it was previously classified as a high risk group and excluded from admission to the life treatment center. After admission, a close follow-up was carried out and if symptoms worsened, the hospital went to a hospital dedicated to infectious diseases.
In the case of a hospital dedicated to infectious diseases, asymptomatic or mild patients under the age of 59 who no longer require oxygen therapy because their symptoms have improved are transferred to the life treatment center. Incentives will be provided to hospitals affiliated with the Life Therapy Center that accept such patients. If all are refused, the patient must bear the required copayment and default costs during treatment.
