According to the Ministry of Justice on the 20th, a total investigation of 425 employees and 2419 prisoners from the Dongbu Detention Center on the 18th resulted in a positive determination of one employee and 184 prisoners. 7.6% of all prisoners were infected.

This is not the first time that a person confirmed by corona 19 has been released from the eastern detention center. On the 15th, 16 employees were confirmed and one detainee who was released from prison for suspension of execution and overturned the interior of the detention center. The detention center isolates close contacts at that time and performs diagnostic tests. Until then, all negative judgments came out. The Eastern Detention Center subsequently re-conducted a comprehensive emergency investigation, revealing 185 hidden infections. The Ministry of Justice suspects the possibility that the route of infection is a “silent transmission” by new asymptomatic prisoners.
Currently, all new prisoners are kept in isolation for two weeks after entering the prison. If there are no symptoms of fever or abnormalities after 14 days, they are immediately transferred to the living room where they live with other prisoners. The problem is when the new prisoner is asymptomatic. In fact, many of these confirmed cases occurred in new prisoners.
A Justice Ministry official said: “Even if the virus is infiltrated, the amount of time it takes to activate is different for each individual,” he said. “So, preemptively, we ran a full test with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.” Although existing close and confirmed corona19 contacts were painstakingly handled, they were unexpectedly stabbed by ‘confirmed asymptomatic cases’.

Some of the confirmed cases were found to have attended the Seoul Northern District Court, and the court also took action against quarantine.
Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, who recently expressed his gratitude, is also said to have received a report of a group infection in prisoners. This is because President Moon Jae-in has not yet accepted his resignation and is carrying out his duties normally. With the approval of the Minister of Justice, the Ministry of Justice established a countermeasures headquarters at the site to prevent further spread. It is said that there are no plans for a full investigation of other detention centers for which no additional confirmed cases have come forward.
