As the COVID-19 situation continues to worsen, the number of patients with severe and severe gastric disorders requiring ventilation or treatment with cardiopulmonary devices is constantly increasing.

As the bed crisis became a reality, the government for the first time issued an administrative order to secure specialized treatment beds for seriously ill patients in hospitals for the elderly.

As more than a thousand new confirmed cases are showing up over four consecutive days, the number of seriously ill patients is also increasing rapidly.

The number of patients receiving ventilator or cardiopulmonary device treatment increased by 29 per day to 275.

Not only older people with underlying illnesses, but also younger people often deteriorate rapidly.

Of the 275 people with severe or stomach illnesses, 39 were age 50 or younger.

A new 20 year old gastric / severe patient was also added, and this is the seventh time.

As the number of seriously ill patients increases rapidly, there are cases of death while staying in nursing homes or in homes due to lack of beds.

The government finally put out a card titled ‘Administrative Order to Secure Beds’ for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak.

In accordance with current infectious disease prevention and management laws, the Commissioner of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may mobilize facilities such as hospital beds in medical institutions during the outbreak.

Specifically, higher-level hospitals ordered to insure at least 1% of the number of beds approved by medical institutions, and national university hospitals ordered to insure at least 1% of the number of beds approved by intensive care patients.

About 40 general hospitals are known to be included, but the government hopes to be able to secure more than 300 beds dedicated to seriously ill patients.

The government has already informed local governments what to ensure and how to support them, and each medical institution is known to be presenting a safety plan.

However, even if it is a serious or severe bed, which is 1% of all beds, there are opinions that it is more than 20% in the whole of the intensive care unit.
