YTN reported on the suspicion and controversy over the world’s first stem cell treatment in the past two days. Today, I am accusing the state of unlicensed stem cell procedures in the Gangnam area of Seoul. Patients with incurable diseases believe they are stem cells and undergo unauthorized procedures whose safety and efficacy have not been verified at the expense of a great deal of money. Reporter Seung-Hwan Kim of the Planning and Exploration Team reported. The miracle of stem cell procedures that can be easily found on YouTube. (How about talking?) “Okay.” This video shows that Parkinson’s tremor symptoms have improved significantly. But the words of the family are different. Stem cell procedures are performed by injecting mononuclear cells isolated from bone marrow, blood, or fat into the patient’s body. Stem cells have not been cultured and the therapeutic effect has not been proven. I went to Gangnam, Seoul, where stem cell treatment is most popular. Untreatable diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Lou Gehrig’s disease are said to improve tremendously once they are treated. The basic cost is in the tens of millions of won, and it costs a whopping 100 million won if treated 10 times a year. Other than cosmetic purposes, most stem cell procedures have not been tested for safety and effectiveness. According to current regulations, the only diseases that can be treated with stem cells are cartilage defects, severe ischemic diseases of the lower extremities, and myocardial infarction. In addition to this, all but four procedures that are only available in certain medical institutions for research purposes are not authorized. The US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, strongly warns of the dangers of unauthorized stem cell procedures. However, not only are our health authorities cracking down, they are also losing control. Patients waiting for stem cell procedures amid government negligence are paying high costs and wasting valuable time. YTN Seunghwan Kim[[email protected]]is.
