Selected a large number of executives in their 40s … 5 women
Hyundai Motor Group executives in the second half of 2020 also received large-scale promotions from executives who will lead future businesses such as urban aviation mobility (UAM), electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells.
Shin Jae-won, UAM division chief (vice president, age 61), was promoted to president. Shin is an aviation expert with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). President Eui-sun Eui-seon directly recruited and joined Hyundai Motor Group in September last year. President Chung also said in a public meeting with employees last year, “In the future, Hyundai Motor’s business will be 50% automobiles, 30% UAM and 20% robotics.”
Hyundai Motor Group told Chairman Shin: “We will play a pivotal role in developing UAM and accelerating the business and realizing the group’s vision for future mobility.” President Shin said at the world’s largest IT and electronics expo ‘CES 2020’ held in the United States earlier this year, “The most important thing in UAM’s business is the ability to mass produce aircraft.”
Gyu-Oh Lee (CEO, 60 years old), who was in charge of the development of ‘E-GMP’, an exclusive platform for electric vehicles, was promoted to vice president. E-GMP, which was unveiled earlier this month, is capable of driving 80% in 18 minutes with a high voltage of 800V and driving more than 500km on a single charge. The company explained that Vice President Lee will focus on ensuring technology leadership in the future electric vehicle market.
Kim Se-hoon, Head of the Fuel Cell Business Division (54, CEO), also became vice president. Hyundai Motor Group explained to Vice President Kim: “We have the highest level of experience in the field of hydrogen fuel cells in Korea” and “We will take care to enhance the leading competitiveness of the future electrification business.” Vice President Kim said at the ‘Korea Investment Festival (KIF) 2020’ in October, “Korea will lead the market in the next era of hydrogen.”
In the second half of the year, 30% of new executives came from future new businesses, new technologies and R&D. Robotics Lab representative Hyun Dong-jin, who leads robot development, is a representative example. The executives were also selected for their outstanding talents in their 40s and 40s. Shin Seong-woo, head of the CVC team at Hyundai-Kia Motors, Yoon Gu-won, head of the management analysis team at Hyundai Motor, and Kim Taek-gyun, head of the exterior design department at Kia Motors.
There are also five new executive women. Kim Joo-mi, Head of Hyundai Motors Brand Communication Team 1, and Huh Hyun-sook, Head of Kia Motors North America Regional Management Support Team, were promoted to CEOs.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said: “We will strive to solidify leadership in robotics, UAM and smart cities alongside autonomous driving, electrification and hydrogen fuel cells.”
