From Gyeonggi to Jeonnam, highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) is spreading across the country.

According to the Central Avian Influenza Accident Control Center on the 13th, there were 10 highly pathogenic AIs that occurred in domestic poultry farms until the previous day.

After highly pathogenic AI occurred in 2 years and 8 months at a meat duck farm in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do on the 26th of last month, a laying hen farm in Sanju, Gyeongbuk on the 1st, a breeding duck farm in Yeongam, Jeonnam on 4, a laying hen farm in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do in farm 6 in Chungbuk and Eumse Highly pathogenic AI was confirmed one after another at Naju Meat Duck Farm in Naju, Jeollanam-do, Quail Farm in Yeoju on the 8th, Naju Meat Duck Farm in Naju and Jangseong Jong-Duck Farm in Jeonnam on the 9th, and Meat Duck Farm in Jeongeup on the 10th.

The day before, a report of suspected highly pathogenic avian influenza was reported at the laying hen farm in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do, and a detailed examination is underway.

In the case of wild birds, 24 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza were confirmed from Gyeonggi to Jeju and 7 cases are currently being tested to confirm whether they are highly pathogenic.

The highly pathogenic AI that was produced in Korea is the same as that of the H5N8 type for both wild and farmed poultry.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food believes that the virus was introduced into Korea through migratory birds and spread to domestic poultry.

If the presence of highly pathogenic AI is confirmed, all poultry within a 3 km radius will be culled to prevent the spread of the disease.

Livestock quarantine authorities killed 4,298,000 poultry raised on 73 farms on the 11th. There are 621,000 ducks, 2,194,000 chickens and 1,483,000 quail.

As the spread of AI was not that severe, Heavy Waterborne issued an order to temporarily halt the movement of livestock, workers, and vehicles at poultry farms and livestock facilities across the country for 48 hours from 0 o’clock the day before. .

During the period of suspension of the movement, poultry farms across the country are conducting extensive cleaning and disinfection in Japan.

There are also concerns that highly pathogenic AI could spread rapidly and affect poultry prices.

In the case of ducks, producer prices have increased, but chicken and egg prices have not shown any clear movement.

As of 4 p.m. on the 11th, the producer price per kg of duck was 1,699 won, 17.3% higher than last month and 25.4% higher than last year.

The consumer price for 10 special events was 1,856 won, 0.2% higher than the previous month and 4.0% higher than the previous year, but the producer price (1,125 won) fell 1.2% and 4.9% compared to last month and last year, respectively.

For broilers, the producer price per kilogram was 1,347 won, 3.2% more than last month and 1.7% more than last year, while the consumer price was 4,999 won, 4.2% less than last month and 2.5% less than last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs believes that the supply of chickens and ducks is sufficient, so the impact on supply and demand and prices will be limited. Broilers can be shipped within 30 days and ducks within 45 days.

The recent increase in the price of some birds and eggs also affected the increase in household consumption due to the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

However, since AI is spreading rapidly, the company will monitor the situation every day and manage it so that there is no supply and demand anxiety.
