Starting on the 14th, 150 temporary detection clinics will be operated in the metropolitan area where anyone can obtain a new test for coronavirus infection (corona 19) for free. As it is a measure to prevent asymptomatic and mildly infected people from spreading the virus, it is expected to settle in places with a large floating population, such as university districts with many young people. Anonymous inspection is possible as long as the mobile phone number is verified.

Yoon Tae-ho, head of the quarantine prevention headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said on the 10th that “150 temporary screening clinics will be operated from next Monday.” The temporary screening clinics run for three weeks, in addition to the 617 screening clinics across the country, which only had symptoms or were in close contact before being evaluated. There is also the possibility of expanding the operation depending on the situation of Corona 19 spread.

The purpose is to find hidden infected people early, so in addition to genetic amplification (PCR), which is the existing corona 19 diagnostic test method, saliva tests and rapid antigen tests are also performed. These two tests are less accurate than the PCR test, but they are easy to collect or receive results quickly.

Health officials recommended that they undergo PCR tests so they can be done even if they go to a temporary clinic. However, if you are not comfortable with collecting the sample, you can have another test. In the case of a saliva test, only the sample is different, but the diagnostic principle is the same as that of PCR, so if a test is positive in this test, it is immediately classified as a confirmed case. Rapid Antigen Test allows you to verify test results immediately on site. However, since the precision is low, if the rapid antigen test is positive, you should undergo an additional PCR test and then enter the self-isolation state and wait for the result of the PCR test.

For this reason, experts are more concerned with asymptomatic and mildly infected people being negatively tested by rapid antigen tests. You can ensure that you are not infected and further promote community spread. Even if you are actually infected with Corona 19, if the virus is low, you can get a negative rapid antigen test result. Lee Sang-won, chief of epidemiological research and analysis, central quarantine countermeasures at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said: “Because rapid antigen testing is a complementary method, it is safer and more effective to undergo to PCR tests “.
