Two of the three officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy were arrested for direct or indirect participation in the massive erasure of internal data related to the Wolsong 1 nuclear power plant.

Daejeon District Court Deputy Chief Judge Oh Se-yong questioned the suspect prior to his arrest on the 4th (substantial examination of the warrant) and was requested by the prosecution for damage to public electronic records and violations of the Law of the Auditor, Mr. A (53) and subordinates (secretary) An arrest warrant was issued against Mr.

Chief Judge Oh explained the reason for the broadcast, saying: “(The two) are denying the crime and are concerned about the destruction of evidence.”

It is suspected that Mr. A instructed Mr. B to remove the documents related to Wolseong Unit 1 just prior to the auditor’s request for data submission.

Mr. B entered the Government Sejong Building Industry Ministry office at 11pm the day before (Sunday) after an interview with the auditor’s auditor was conducted on the morning of December 2 (Monday) last year, and deleted 444 documents related to Wolseong Unit 1 for about two hours. Said.

At the time, it was reported that B had corrected the file name, etc. so that the original content could not be recognized even if it was restored later in the case of a document that appeared to be important.

Mr B said in the auditor’s office: “If I tell you (next to the auditor) that there is no data related to the audit, I thought it might win my mind.” It is known that he said yes.

The court order of Mr. C, the manager of another subordinate of Mr. A, was dismissed.

Deputy Judge Oh stated the reason for the dismissal, saying: “We generally admit the crimes requested for a court order and, in light of the evidence already obtained, it is difficult to see that there is concern about the destruction of evidence or the leak.”

In light of the fact that the suspects pledged to “ sincerely commit to the investigation or trial, ” they said it was not enough to see the need or importance of the arrest at this stage.

Deputy Judge Oh added: “The prosecution’s concern about destroying evidence is related to a crime that is not on the arrest warrant in this case,” he added.

Part 5 of the Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office (Prosecutor Sang-Hyun Lee) investigating this case did not respond to issuing an order.

As the main suspects are arrested, the prosecution’s investigation is expected to accelerate.

The next point of the sword is expected to go to former Industry Minister Baek Woon-gyu and Chae Hee-bong, then Secretary for Industrial Policy of the Blue House (currently president of Korea Gas Corporation). A subpoena investigation is expected sooner or later.
