The new Vice Minister Lee Yong-gu, a former judge who has served on the court for more than 20 years, was the first non-prosecutor to be appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Ministry of Justice and served for two years and eight months.

The Blue House assessed that the new Vice Minister Lee would contribute to a fair and neutral resolution of the current problems facing the Ministry of Justice, including the reform of the prosecution, and to stabilize the organization.

The term begins tomorrow (3), and Vice Minister Lee will also attend Attorney General Yoon Seok-yeol’s disciplinary committee, which will be held the day after tomorrow (4).

However, the official representative of the disciplinary committee has decided to leave it to a private person among other members of the disciplinary committee besides Vice Minister Lee.

Article 23 of the Law on the Discipline of Prosecutors establishes that “disciplinary action by the prosecutor is taken by the president at the request of the Minister of Justice.”
