On the 28th, at the Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant in Incheon, a driver carrying cargo in a car crashed 3.5 m and died. Although there is always the risk of accidents, there were no safety managers on site. Reporter Kim Kyung-soo reports. Last Saturday around 1 pm, a 50-year-old truck driver crashed and died at the Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant. He fell from a 3.5 m high cargo container while transporting coal ash from the power plant to a car. At the time, Mr. A was working alone and there was no security manager on site. However, field workers testify that there was always the risk of accidents, like a crash two months ago. Loading and unloading cargo is not essentially the job of the truck driver. There should be a separate staff in charge of loading and unloading the cargo, but it was left to the driver for reasons such as cost reduction. Bereaved family members who visited the power plant and checked the workplace and CCTV erupted in anguish saying that safety management was poor and that there was a problem with the initial action immediately after the accident. He also claimed that the power plant was trying to hand over responsibility to the subcontractor to which the trucker belongs. The police and the Employment and Labor Administration are determining whether the safety measures have been taken correctly at the accident scene and who is responsible for the safety management. In early September, at the Taean Thermal Power Station, an accident occurred in which a driver of 60 trucks, carrying two tons of equipment in a single vehicle, was covered in equipment and died. It’s just different in time and place, and if you open it up, structurally the same accidents continue, and there’s a growing voice that a countermeasure is urgent to prevent recurrence.
