Remember the accident that killed a motorcyclist while driving a truck while intoxicated a while ago?

This drunk driving truck driver wasn’t the first time, but it turned out he didn’t even have car insurance.

The pain of losing a family overnight is indescribable, but the grieving family called for severe punishment, saying such a tragedy should not be repeated.

A one-ton truck fleeing police pursuit hits the motorcycle as it was.

In September, a driver’s truck and motorcycle collided with a driver who was intoxicated to the level of a license cancellation.

The motorcyclist eventually died, and the perpetrator was brought to trial on charges of drunk driving and fatality from driving in dangerous situations.

But this driver, driving drunk, was not the first time.

Also, he had no vehicle insurance.

Even the day before the accident, it turned out that he was in an uninsured car accident.

Families who lost their minds in one day.

I have not yet announced the death of my father to my younger sister with an intellectual disability.

In addition, the perpetrator was not insured, so he did not receive an apology, much less settlement payment.

[피해자 아들 : 보상받을 길도 없고 보상을 원하는 것도 아니에요. 다 필요 없어요. 제대로 된 처벌만 받으면 원하는 게 하나도 없습니다.]

With the implementation of the so-called ‘Yoon Chang-ho Law’, which strengthened the punishment for drunk drivers two years ago, the punishment standards have been strengthened so that if a fatal drunk driving accident occurs, it can be sentenced to chain life.

[양민규 / 변호사 : 법원에서도 개정 취지를 고려해서 관련 범죄를 보다 무겁게 처벌하고 있는 상황입니다. 보험에 가입하지 않는 경우처럼 불리한 양형 요소가 있다면 훨씬 더 무겁게 처벌될 것으로 예상됩니다.]

The prosecution imprisoned the perpetrator for 7 years and a first trial sentence is imposed next month.

Until now, the highest sentence for a driver who died in a drunk driving accident was eight years in prison.

While there is still criticism that a cotton bat is a punishment, the grieving families filed a petition with the court asking for severe punishment so that the tragedy is not repeated.
