This year, the number of reported people who died after receiving an influenza (flu) vaccine rose to 108. Health officials have determined that 107 of these do not have a causal relationship between influenza vaccination and death.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 28th, a total of 108 cases were reported to have died within days of vaccination at 0 o’clock that day after starting the ‘flu vaccination 2020-2021 ‘.
Compared to the 107 people reported at 0 o’clock on the 19th, it increased by 1 person.
The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said: “Of 108 cases of deaths reported as adverse reactions after influenza vaccination, it was determined that causation between death and vaccination was not recognized as a result of epidemiological investigation. and the deliberation of the damage investigation group “.
The remainder is in an epidemiological investigation by authorities and health experts.
The KCDC held a rapid response meeting of the damage investigation team on the 27th and reviewed an additional case of death, but concluded that causality between death and vaccination was not recognized as in the 106 previous cases.
This case did not correspond to ‘anaphylaxis’, which showed acute symptoms after vaccination, and it was found that no adverse reactions occurred from inoculators who received the vaccine of the same serial number on the same day at the same medical institution.
The Agency for Disease Control explained that “causality between death and vaccination was not recognized in all death cases reviewed so far, so it was determined that it was not a situation to consider retesting the vaccine or suspend the national vaccination project “.
Of the 108 deaths reported, 48 autopsies completed before 27 and 60 did not.
Of the deaths recorded to date, 81.5% (88) were over 70 years of age.
By age group, 48 people were over 80 years old, followed by 40 people in their 70s and 10 people in their 60s and under 60 each.
At the time of reporting the death, the highest number of cases was 60 in the third week of October (10,19-25), when free vaccinations for the elderly 70 years and older began.
The time to death after vaccination was 68 patients (63.0%) for 48 hours and 19 patients (17.6%) for less than 24 hours.
At 0 o’clock that day, about 13.37 million flu shots were made in Korea.
13.37 million out of a total of 1958.3865 people who are eligible for the free national vaccination program, including 6 months to 12 years of age, pregnant women, 13 to 18 years of age, 62 years of age or older, and beneficiaries pension, subsidy and medical benefits. With 832 vaccinations administered, the vaccination rate is 68.3%.
The number of reports of adverse reactions such as fever and local reactions after receiving the flu vaccine this year was 2.2 at 0 o’clock on the same day, of which no vaccination or causality was confirmed.
