8:00 PM-1: 00 AM the next day
Random place … Until January 23 of next year
During a 27 day, the police arrested 31 drunk drivers. The police plan to continue the crackdown every day until early next year. This is to clear up the misconception that the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) is remarkable and that it is “ relaxing the crackdown. ”
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, on the 28th, a total of 31 drunk driving cases were detected in Seoul since 8 p.m. on the 27th, when the special crackdown on drunk driving began to 1 am the next day. There were 19 cases with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or more corresponding to the cancellation of the license and 12 cases with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.03 to 0.08% corresponding to the suspension of the license.
This year’s crackdown on drunk drivers took place earlier than in previous years. It’s because karaoke rooms are suspended after 9pm and restaurants can only be packed and delivered. As the time of the year-end meeting drew on, the time of repression also moved.
As the weather turns colder, the spread of Corona 19 is remarkably prominent, but traffic accidents caused by alcohol have risen significantly from last year. According to the police, in January-October this year, there were 1921 cases of traffic accidents with alcohol, 8.5% more than in the same period last year.
The method of cracking down on drunk drivers has also changed due to concerns about corona 19 infection. First, when the alcohol content is confirmed by placing the measuring equipment in the car, the driver gets out of the car and undergoes to an exam with an existing drinking device.
Police said they would strengthen the crackdown on drunk driving against motorcycles, bicycles and electric scooter drivers, as well as against vehicles. An early morning hangover is also expected to be detected due to an emergency offensive.
The Seoul Police Agency will hold special actions for two months until January 23 of next year. The crackdown will be located near entertainment districts, markets, and subway stations in central Seoul, and the crackdown is expected to continue as the location changes randomly every day.
