On the 22nd, the Ministry of Education announced a change in academic management due to the strengthening of social distancing.
First of all, the number of kindergartens and primary and secondary schools in the metropolitan area is limited to one third of all students. Students only go to school one or two days a week or take turns every three weeks for each grade level. It seems that the burden on parents will inevitably increase immediately. This is because there are more days to receive distance education at home than there are on school days.
The number of attendees in the Honam area is also limited to two-thirds. Until now, Honam’s students have maintained the first stage of social distancing, with most of them attending school.
Although the attendance cap has been tightened, small schools with fewer than 300 students (60 kindergartens), agricultural and fishing village schools, and special schools will continue to loosen density standards as they are now. This takes into account the fact that the situation is different from that of schools in urban areas.
Of course, at the discretion of each metropolitan / provincial education office and the principal, the number of attendance can be increased by up to two-thirds. However, it is known that the Ministry of Education and most metropolitan education offices agreed to observe the ‘one-third’ standard as much as possible, considering the situation where the university entrance examination (SAT) is short.
