In some areas, there are concerns about a shortage of beds, but the quarantine authorities, who had a fire in their feet, decided to secure additional beds.

The spread of infections in small-scale groups rarely shows signs of slowing down.

As a result, the medical system is increasingly overloaded, with 300 cases confirmed over three consecutive days in three months since August.

Among the nation’s critically ill hospital beds, there are currently 112 beds to which patients can be admitted immediately.

By district, there are 51 in the metropolitan area, 14 in the Chungcheong area, and 10 in the Honam area, especially in the Gyeongbuk area and the Gangwon area, with only 5 and 3 remaining.

With the spread increasingly fierce, quarantine authorities also became more nervous.

In fact, with the number of patients with severe gastric disorders increasing every day by as little as 5 to 12, there is also a dismal outlook that the total number of patients with severe gastric disorders will soon exceed the triple digit number.

Consequently, quarantine authorities first introduced a financial suitability assessment committee to efficiently manage beds in critical condition.

When the patient’s symptoms improve, the management system has been changed so that only patients who need treatment, such as moving to another bed, are admitted to the intensive care unit.

In addition, by replacing the nationally designated inpatient treatment bed with a bed dedicated to treating critically ill patients, it has decided to secure 216 additional beds in total by the end of the year.

We plan to increase the number to 231 for the first half of next year and 600 for the long term.

Experts note that the government said it would expand 213 dedicated treatment beds by the end of the year during the second outbreak in August, but only secured 140, noting that a more proactive attitude is needed.
