In preparation for the launch of the US administration Joe Biden in January next year, from China’s perspective, analysts say the purpose of visiting Korea is to manage relations with US allies South Korea and Japan.

Wang Yi is expected to visit Japan from 24 to 25 and meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi respectively.

The Biden administration, like the Donald Trump administration, is expected to emphasize the importance of cooperation with Korea and Japan in a situation where it is likely to put heavy pressure on China.

There is also the possibility of explaining China’s position on the current issue of the US-China conflict.

Director Wang Yi’s visit to Korea has lasted for about a year from December 4-5 last year.

Minister Kang and Director Wang Yi have communicated frequently through ten meetings of foreign ministers and three phone calls.

The Foreign Ministry said: “Even in the Corona 19 situation, communication between the high levels of Korea and China will remain a significant opportunity to seek ways to develop relations between the two countries to a higher level.”
