(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-hyun = Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and a member of the State Council are scheduled to visit Korea officially from 25-27 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung- hwa, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 20th.

Director Wang Yi is holding a face-to-face meeting with Minister Kang for the first time since the global spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) on the 26th.

The Foreign Minister explained that through the talks, Minister Kang will exchange in-depth views on issues of mutual interest such as cooperation in response to Corona 19 and high-level exchanges between the two countries, the situation on the Korean Peninsula. and regional and international issues.

Regarding the high-level exchanges, discussions are expected on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Korea.

As soon as the Corona 19 situation stabilizes, the two governments decided to close President Xi’s visit to Korea as soon as possible, but as the Corona 19 situation in Korea is spreading again, it does not look easy at the moment.

Discussions are expected to stably handle the situation on the Korean Peninsula so that North Korea does not provoke during the transition of the US administration.

During his visit to Korea, Director Wang Yi may meet a person from the National Security Office at the Blue House.

In preparation for the launch of the US administration Joe Biden in January next year, from China’s perspective, analysts say the purpose of visiting Korea is to manage relations with US allies South Korea and Japan.

Wang Yi is expected to visit Japan from 24 to 25 and meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi respectively.

The Biden administration, like the Donald Trump administration, is expected to emphasize the importance of cooperation with Korea and Japan in a situation where it is likely to put heavy pressure on China.

There is also the possibility of explaining China’s position on the current issue of the US-China conflict.

Director Wang Yi’s visit to Korea has lasted for about a year from December 4-5 last year.

Minister Kang and Director Wang Yi have communicated frequently through ten meetings of foreign ministers and three phone calls.

The Foreign Ministry said: “Even in the Corona 19 situation, communication between the high levels of Korea and China will remain a significant opportunity to seek ways to develop relations between the two countries to a higher level.”
