[사회]Some disruptions to school meals due to a strike by non-regular workers … Parents “Seek points of contact as soon as possible”

With the retirement pension improvement, some of the school lunch chefs in Seoul launched a two-day general strike.

Parents called as soon as possible to find a point of contact between the Seoul Education Bureau and the non-regular union in order to avoid prolonged meal interruptions.

Reporter Park Hee-jae reports.

The morning class is in full swing, in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education.

Some 90 non-regular members of the union, including school meal workers in raincoats, held a demonstration.

He urged them to change the system, saying they would have to lose tens of millions of won compared to other local workers due to the wrong severance pay method.

“Let’s win, convert DB severance pay (defined benefit type)!”

For more than ten days, the Office of Education reached a compromise that partially accommodated the union’s demands.

However, workers rejected the pension, saying it was within the lowest level in the country.

The number of participants in the two-day general strike was 620, or 3.8% of total union members.

Although it did not reach the level of 1 in 3 minutes that the union expected, meals were interrupted in 36 schools.

Parents just want both parties to find contact as soon as possible.

[학부모 단체 관계자 : 파업은 원칙적으로 지지하나, 코로나19 상황에서 당장 급한 거 아니면 미뤘으면 좋겠다는 바람이 있는데 파업한다고 하니 걱정이 많이 됩니다.]

Teachers’ organizations have also called for amendments to the law to introduce alternative staff in the event of a strike or emergency.

Apart from this strike, the non-regular care teachers of the primary school announced that they would hold a second general strike across the country after the sixth, with the improvement of working conditions, as a transition to full time.

Following the suspension of meals, concerns also increase about the suspension of care classes.
