In Korea, more than 100 cases have been reported to health authorities, alleging that an adverse reaction is suspected after vaccination against the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
The Central Defense Response Headquarters (Bang Dae-bon) announced that 147 new cases were reported as adverse reactions after vaccination at 0 o’clock on day 3.
Among them, the number of reported deaths increased by two to 32. The causality between vaccination and death has not yet been identified.
One of them was the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine and the other was the Pfizer vaccine.
This is the first time a report of the death of a person vaccinated with Pfizer has been received.
The death toll was a 76-year-old man in Nowon-gu, Seoul, and it was investigated that he had suffered from kidney failure about six years ago. It was included in the vaccination goal for people aged 75 years or older that started on the 1st of this month and died on the 2nd 15 hours after vaccination at 3pm on the first day.
The other death was a 70-year-old woman with an underlying disease, who received the AstraZeneca vaccine at the nursing hospital where she was admitted on the 25th of last month, and died on the 27th of the same month, 8 hours after 2 days.
The number of suspected cases of “anaphylaxis”, which is a severe systemic allergic reaction, and serious suspected cases (hospitalization in the intensive care unit) also increased by one. These are all vaccines against AstraZeneca.
The remaining 143 cases were relatively mild symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, fever, chills, and nausea.
As a result, since vaccination began on the 26th of last month, there have been a cumulative number of 10,968 reports of suspected adverse reactions. At 0 o’clock on this day, it is 1.12% of the 979,000 936 cumulative inoculations in Korea.
Among them, the AstraZeneca vaccine was associated with 10,495 cases, representing 95.6% of all reports. There were 473 cases (4.4%) related to the Pfizer vaccine.
This appears to be due to the number of AstraZeneca vaccines (853,579) far more than the Pfizer vaccines (12,357).
The adverse reaction reporting rate compared to those vaccinated was 1.23% for the AstraZeneca vaccine and 0.37% for the Pfizer vaccine.
In the cases of adverse reactions reported so far, there are 108 suspected cases of anaphylaxis (94 cases of AstraZeneca, 14 cases of Pfizer), of which 100 cases of anaphylaxis-type reactions and 8 cases of anaphylaxis shock.
Suspected cases of anaphylaxis are largely divided into anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock, and anaphylactic reactions. Anaphylaxis-type reaction is a case in which dyspnea and hives appear within 2 hours after vaccination. The symptoms are similar to anaphylaxis, but can be improved with symptomatic therapy, so it is not a problem, the experts explained.
There are 17 cases of suspected serious adverse reactions. Seven cases of nervous system reactions such as seizures and 10 intensive care unit hospitalizations were associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Additionally, 11,811 cases, accounting for 98.5% of all adverse reaction reports, were mild cases such as muscle pain, headache, fever, and nausea, which are common after vaccination.
