[이상원 / 중앙방역대책본부 역학조사분석단장]

Yesterday there were 22 deaths and the accumulated death toll was 634.

I wish the blessings and wishes of the deceased to the grieving family with a word of deep comfort.

I will explain the current status of the main domestic outbreaks of the previous day.

Regarding the nursing hospital in Guro-gu, Seoul, an additional 20 cases were confirmed during the contact investigation after the first confirmed case occurred on December 15, and a total of 21 cases have accumulated so far.

Regarding the religious facilities in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, 13 more people were confirmed during the investigation, and a total of 192 people have been confirmed so far.

Regarding the second religious facility in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, 15 more were confirmed during the contact investigation after the first confirmed case occurred on December 14, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases so far is 16 .

During the investigation of the contacts related to the religious facilities in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, an additional person was confirmed for the religious facilities in Dangjin and 7 more for the Seosan Prayer Center, so the cumulative number of confirmed cases is 119.

Regarding the family reunion in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, 10 more were confirmed during the contact investigation after the first confirmed case occurred on December 14, and a total of 11 confirmed cases have accumulated so far.

Regarding religious facilities in Jeju City, Jeju, an additional 18 cases were confirmed during the contact persons investigation after the first confirmed cases occurred on December 14, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases so far is 19.

If you need additional information on other events, we will explain it to you in detail through the Spokesman’s office after the briefing.

I will explain the characteristics of fashion from December 1 to the present.

By age, 30.1% of those over 60 years of age represent 30.1% of those of 40 and 50 years, and 25.8% of those of 20 and 30 years.

If you are over 60 years old, 10% of confirmed cases will become seriously ill patients.

By route of infection, 43.2% of the cases were due to contact with confirmed individual patients and 30.4% of the group cases were caused.

The source of transmission by contact with confirmed individual patients is the family, and 33.2% of them are infected through the family.

Unfortunately, an action is more important to protect your valuable family and family.

If you have a family member with a little discomfort, please take a look at them so they can get tested right away. Please use your strength to follow the rules of personal hygiene, such as wearing a mask when going out and washing your hands immediately at home.

The group infection route has different characteristics according to age.

People over 60 years old have many infections in nursing hospitals, nursing facilities, and restaurants.

They represent 18.2% and 5.6% respectively.

People ages 40 to 59 had many infections related to work and religious facilities.

Among those under 20 years of age, there were a relatively large number of cases related to educational facilities.

When looking at the route of infection by gender, women had a high incidence of infection in nursing hospitals, religion and the workplace, while men were more frequently infected in nursing hospitals, educational centers and religion.

For specific details, see the press release.

Looking at the route of infection over the past 4 weeks, there is a marked increase in infections in hospitals and nursing facilities in December.

Two weeks ago, there were only 75 patients in the nursing hospital, but there are still 429 people in Jeonju and 363 people in this week.

Additionally, infections in religious facilities increased, with 53 people two weeks ago, but 156 people in Jeonju and 279 people this week.

Meanwhile, infection through acquaintances dropped to 163 two weeks ago, but 141 people last week and 10 people this week.

Infections through sports and leisure facilities also decreased, reaching 263 two weeks ago, but 74 in Jeonju and 11 this week, where the count continues.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the people who have worked hard to block the outbreak even under difficult conditions.

Also, I will tell you about current diagnostic tests.

As already mentioned several times, the standard diagnostic test method is the nasopharyngeal PCR test.

It is the most sensitive and accurate test method used worldwide, but it has limitations that make sample collection difficult.

Specimen collection is a difficult test for the general public, not for medical personnel.

It is not a simple sample collection process like a urine pregnancy test or a diabetes test.

As commonly misunderstood, COVID-19 specimen collection is not collected through the nostrils.

A cotton swab is pushed deep through the nostrils at a flat angle towards the roof of the mouth, scraping the secretion from the lower middle part of the lower turbinate system and taking time to absorb the secretion for a few seconds.

This specimen collection site is very sensitive and can cause pain for some people, making self-collection and testing difficult.

Self-collection cannot guarantee the reliability of the sample and can cause accidents such as bleeding.

It also requires some training to read the test results.

The sample collection procedure is the same for both the PCR test and the rapid antigen test.

However, when it comes to precision, PCR has become the standard because it is the highest.

Therefore, to solve the problem of such a difficult sample collection, it is a little less accurate than the nasopharyngeal test, but a test method can be selected through the saliva test.

Rapid antigen testing is also less sensitive than PCR.

However, it can be useful in situations such as an emergency room where tests are not possible, remote areas, or when you need to quickly verify results.

Currently, screening clinics are being expanded in the metropolitan area and the test method can be determined according to the recommendations and selection of medical personnel.

As the third epidemic is in full swing, our quarantine authorities are focusing on breaking the chain of infection by quickly finding and quarantining potential patients in the community with a rapid and extensive testing system.

For the early diagnosis and blocking strategy to be successful by expanding diagnostic tests, the most important thing is the voluntary and relentless participation of the public and also the safety of the medical staff in the screening laboratory.

To give a brief introduction to the fortress that was yesterday, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Welfare urgently requested the help of the Medical Association for the operation of the Seoul City Council’s detection office for three weeks.

However, within an hour, all the applicants arrived and 30 members of the medical staff needed for the temporary screening were quickly filled in.

Among the doctors who had been told the application was already closed, they said they wanted to be dispatched by asking for a call first when a similar situation arose.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to the doctors and teachers who supported the on-site dispatch despite the risk of COVID-19 infection and despite the cold and uncomfortable environment, and to the Disaster Treatment Team of the Medical Association.

Medical staff are very strong in supporting the current quarantine response to active testing and the search for asymptomatic patients.

Furthermore, this cooperation and active solidarity allowed the early detection of 68 asymptomatic patients in the metropolitan area.

We also appreciate the voluntary inspection of the residents of the metropolitan area, who prevented further spread through rapid diagnosis.

However, despite a lot of effort, fashion has not stopped easily.

The seasonal factor of winter and the social atmosphere of the end of the year and New Year holidays will also be a difficult factor in controlling fashion.

I would like to express my gratitude and respect to the numerous medical personnel, health workers, and epidemiological researchers across the country who are already enduring overwork beyond their limits.

Quarantine authorities will work together to do everything possible and do everything possible to stop this trend.
