The first Korean congresswoman came from the United States. She is the first Korean woman in the United States House of Representatives and the first African-American congresswoman in the state of Washington.

Candidate Marylin Strickland (58, Korean name Sunja), a Korean woman who challenged the US House of Representatives, was elected in the elections held on the 3rd (local time), the Associated Press reported on the 4th.

Candidate Strickland won the 10th Washington State Constituency as a Democrat, finishing second in the primaries (preliminary election) and defeating Washington State Congresswoman Beth Doglio from the same party.

Strickland-elect was born in Seoul in September 1962 to Kim In-min, a Korean mother, and Willie Strickland, a black American father.

Strickland, who came to the U.S. When his father was assigned to the Fort Lee base in Virginia at the age of 1, he graduated from Mount Tacoma High School and studied business at the University of Washington and an MBA. of Business (MBA) at Clark Atlanta University.

He was elected to the Tacoma City Council through Northern Life Insurance and Starbucks, and entered politics. After two years of experience on the City Council, he was elected Mayor of Tacoma and served as Mayor from 2010 to 2018.

She was the first Asian mayor of Tacoma and the first black woman to be elected mayor of Tacoma.

Streakland-elect has shown that he is proud of his identity as Korean Eggs and appreciates the spiritual heritage he inherited from his mother.

His election campaign website says that if elected, he will be “the first black American to represent Washington state at the federal level, and the first Korean-American woman in the 230-year history of Congress.”

He said that when elected, health, education and clean energy jobs will be top priorities.
