President Moon Jae-in met Japanese Prime Minister Suga for the first time at the ASEAN + 3 Summit in which ten ASEAN countries and three countries, Korea, China and Japan participate. At the meeting, President Moon emphasized health and economic cooperation between countries to overcome the Corona 19 crisis. Reporter Na Yeon-soo reports. President Moon Jae-in delivered a separate greeting to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga during a speech at the ASEAN + 3 Summit. This was the first time we sat down by video conference since Suga took office in September. Still, it is unusual to greet the heads of a certain country, but it reads like a message to try to resolve the rigid relationship between Korea and Japan during the term of former Prime Minister Abe. President Moon assessed that ASEAN and Korea, China and Japan are setting an example of international cooperation against the Crown based on the cooperation experience accumulated since the 1997 financial crisis. Mentioning the “Corona ASEAN Response Fund” and the “Essential Medical Supplies Storage System”, he suggested that cooperation in health should also be promoted. He also said that after the coronavirus, we will be wary of the pace of economic recovery between countries and growing inequality, and we will discuss win-win wisdom. At the meeting, the leaders adopted the ‘ASEAN + 3 Summit Declaration on Economic and Financial Resilience’ based on free trade and multilateralism. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, RCEP, which is celebrated today (15), is signing the world’s largest free trade agreement covering a third of the world’s population. President Moon repeatedly emphasized that, using the ASEAN + 3 summit declaration and the signing of the RCEP as a fulcrum, we will take the path of ‘win-win and cooperation’ against the path of ‘protectionism’.
