Suspected cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been confirmed at a duck farm in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do. If it is considered highly pathogenic, it is the third case after Jeongeup in Jeonbuk and Sangju in Gyeongbuk. We will connect journalists to learn more about the news. Reporter Lee Seong-woo! Can you tell us the details of a suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do? Yes, the AI Central Accident Control Center said yesterday that a suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed at a duck fattening farm in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. H5 type AI antigen was detected at the Jeonnam Animal Health Laboratory quarantine inspection before the ducks were shipped from this farm. It will take from one day to three days for the AI antigen to be determined to be highly pathogenic. Currently, quarantine authorities have conducted a thorough examination of the farm’s avian influenza antigens and dispatched an initial response team to control access, preventive killing, and epidemiological investigations. If the highly pathogenic AI is confirmed to be confirmed, preventive killings will be carried out for farms within a 3 km radius of the farm. This farm, which is suspected of highly pathogenic AI, is raising more than 9,800 ducks for meat and has 10 poultry farms within a 3 km radius. There are known to be 493,000 ducks and other breeds on these farms. Quarantine authorities have issued a temporary suspension order for poultry farms, livestock facilities and livestock vehicles in Jeollanam-do for 48 hours starting at 1 a.m. today. In addition, a temporary suspension order has been issued to the poultry farm belonging to the affiliated company where the suspected AI case occurred. If high pathogenicity is confirmed, this is the third highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in domestic farms after Jeongeup in Jeonbuk and Sangju in Gyeongbuk. Because of this, quarantine authorities are nervous about whether the highly pathogenic AI is spreading across the country. So far, the national department has complied.
