[전국]Residents and police collide while bringing equipment for the construction of the Seongju THAAD base … 2 people injured

The Ministry of Defense and the US military brought construction teams to the high-altitude missile defense system, or the Seongju base in Gyeongbuk, where THAAD was deployed.

In the process, two neighbors were injured when police collided with neighbors trying to block the entrance of equipment.

Residents and members of civic groups opposed to the THAAD deployment sat tied to stairs.

News that the Department of Defense and the USFK are bringing construction crews to the base blocked the road.

The dissolution measures began after the confrontation between the neighbors and the police, and was completed in about an hour after surrounding the neighbors.

In the process, neighbors and the police collided and two people were injured.

Scattered residents voiced their opposition, saying the government continues to operate the THAAD base without an environmental impact assessment.

The equipment brought to the base after the accident was about 30 vehicles, including dump trucks and heavy equipment.

The Defense Ministry explained that there were no teams to improve THAAD’s performance as in May.

THAAD was implemented after the controversy in 2017 and has been in operation for almost three years.

Conflicts between the government and residents are repeated every time teams enter, but the conflict deepens without finding a sharp solution.
