Three months after the discovery of larvae in Incheon and the metropolitan area, larvae were found one after another in Jeju.

When reports of restless residents continued, the Ministry of the Environment and Jeju Island began investigating the cause.

It is a larva that is found in a domestic shower.

Since the larva was first discovered on the 18th, there have been reports that it was discovered one after another in the eastern part of Seogwipo City.

The larvae were also found at the Gangjeong Water Purification Plant, which supplies tap water to the area where the larvae were found.

Residents who live near the water treatment plant are concerned about finding larvae, but point out the lack of management of the administrative authorities over the water supply area.

The Environment Ministry sent 23 experts to Jeju to initiate a detailed epidemiological investigation.

First, we thoroughly investigated the water purification plant that supplies water to the area where the larvae were found.

Meetings were also held to prepare measures.

In addition to investigating the cause, Jeju Island has prepared support measures for residents who are anxious about the discovery of larvae and have difficulty using tap water.

Relevant authorities believe that the cause of the larvae incident in Seogwipo is not due to mishandling of activated carbon at the water purification plant as in Incheon and the metropolitan area.

Authorities estimate that the larvae living in the middle and upper streams were washed downstream due to the heavy rains that fell during the last Typhoon Mysack as the cause of the larvae incident.

Authorities have decided that this week is likely to be a turning point for the Seogwipo larval incident, and will focus on identifying and normalizing the cause.
