The electoral war for the mayor of Busan is heating up.

Both candidates made similar promises to revive the failing local economy and actively promote a new airport on Gaduk Island.

However, the detailed instructions are slightly different.

Reporter Oh Tae-in summarized the promises of the two candidates.

Democratic Party candidate Kim Young-chun and People’s Power candidate Hyeong-jun Park who voted for the dedication to Busan!

The two candidates went hand in hand in their promise to work to save Busan’s sluggish economy.

Candidate Kim announced that he would create 250,000 jobs each year through the expansion of the Free Economic Zone.

Candidate Park is committed to creating youth jobs through industry-academia cooperation and increasing jobs in the fourth industry.

[박형준 / 국민의힘 부산시장 후보 : 사람과 기업과 돈이 함께 선순환하는 이런 도시를 우리가 반드시 만들어야 하고 그 도시를 제가 반드시 만들겠습니다.]

Gadeokdo is of the same opinion that he is actively promoting the new airport, but the approach was a bit different.

Candidate Kim emphasized the early start and completion of Gadeokdo Airport,

[김영춘 / 더불어민주당 부산시장 후보 : 제1호 공약은 가덕도 신공항을 조기 착공 조기 완공하겠다는 겁니다. 2029년까지 공항을 완공해서 2030년에 세계엑스포를 치르겠다는 겁니다.]

Candidate Park pledged to create an ‘Urban Loop’ high speed train connecting Gadeokdo and the city center.

[박형준 / 국민의힘 부산시장 후보 : 가덕도 공항과 직접 연결을 하고 북항을 관광 메카로 만들어서 원도심 상권을 비롯한 지역 주민들의 삶의 질을 크게 높여놓겠습니다.]

Real estate policies were mixed.

Candidate Kim focused on region-balanced supply and public-led development, while Candidate Park emphasized simplification of redevelopment and reconstruction regulations, and private sector-led development.

Huge budgets of 9 trillion won and 6 trillion won, respectively, are needed to make the promises made by Candidate Kim and Candidate Park come true.

The term remaining until the next local elections is only one year.

It is noteworthy whether a compromise that is difficult to achieve in the short term can be made without stopping for electoral reasons.
