A confirmed case of African swine fever appeared in one year in Korea.

It’s in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do.

Quarantine authorities buried all pigs raised in the vicinity, including the hamlet that was produced.

A temporary suspension of movement of livestock facilities has been issued in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces.

Here in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do,

This is where nearly 300 cases of wild boar infection were reported in the last year.

When the quarantine was finally cleared, a confirmed case appeared in Gangwon-do for the first time on pig farms.

We are located in Sangseo-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do.

It is a border area with Cheorwon, and it is a border area with military units right next to it.

There is a pig farm at the end of the second lane of the road where I am now and, as you can see, the quarantine authorities are under strict control.

More than 900 pigs raised since morning are being buried in the back farmhouse.

That was yesterday.

Of the eight mother sows shipped from this pig farm, three died in a slaughterhouse in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do.

The quarantine authorities launched a field investigation.

As a result of collecting samples and conducting a thorough examination at the quarantine headquarters, it was finally confirmed as ASF and African swine fever at 5am today.

It has been exactly one year since the outbreak in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do, on October 9 last year, that a confirmed case of African swine fever appeared on domestic pig farms.

In the future, the quarantine will be more important.

How does it work?

Prevention is largely accomplished in two ways.

First, preventive quarantine and slaughter are taking place.

Of course, this farm with confirmed cases is included.

There is a farm within a radius of 3 km and another farm within a radius of 10 km.

More than 1,500 pigs raised on these two farms are also under quarantine.

Along with this, a command was issued to stop the stop movement.

On the 11th, until 5 am, a temporary suspension order was issued for all cattle farms in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do for 48 hours.

Shipping for slaughter or manure extraction is not possible.

As mentioned above, emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection are being implemented while access to the farm is currently controlled.

All pig farms in the border area will be inspected and verified by phone for infections every day.

Previously, the farm was the site of a wild boar outbreak 250 meters away in July.

At that time, preventive measures were discussed, but since no infection was confirmed on the farm, a quarantine management was carried out at the operation level of a surveillance post.

Therefore, quarantine authorities estimate that this case was also spread through animals, people and vehicles entering and leaving the contaminated border area.

In fact, before we came here, we spoke with other pig farmers in Hwacheon.

A transport car that headed to this farm where a confirmed case was reported recently visited several neighboring pig farms.

I am concerned about further spread.

Vehicles and visitors visiting the northern part of Gangwon must cooperate with the quarantine.
