[전국]’70 years unraveled ‘… Jeju 4 · 3 first general court trial acquitted

An elderly man in his 90s, who was imprisoned on a wrongful accusation on April 3 in Jeju, was found guilty of innocence through a retrial.

This is the first time that I was a new trial plaintiff who lived through a sentence in a general trial.

Reporter Ko Jae-hyung in the press.

This year’s grandfather, Kim Doo-hwang, 92, was framed and taken to the police more than 70 years ago.

He was tried and sentenced to one year in prison for false confessions that he failed to overcome through torture and threats to shoot.

[김두황 / 4·3 일반재판 재심 무죄 : 검사가 없고 있어야 할 변호사도 없고. 그대로 재판장이 징역 1년이면 1년, 2년이면 2년, 그렇게 재판했습니다.]

Grandpa Kim requested a new trial after 70 years and was ultimately acquitted.

This is the first conviction of innocence as a prisoner who was given a general trial on April 3.

The judge said that the defendant consistently denied the charges and that the prosecutor responsible for proving did not provide relevant evidence.

Furthermore, he consoled Grandfather Kim, saying that a 20-year-old was unfairly punished for using anti-government activities amid extreme ideology immediately after liberation.

Grandpa Kim made no secret of his joy, saying that he had been released for 70 years.

Children who found out what their father had been up to just a few years ago rejoice with tears at the 70 years of innocence.

Grandpa Kim said that many people were awaiting a new trial and hoping to pass the Jeju Special Law 4 · 3 pending in the National Assembly.

[김두황 / 4·3 일반재판 재심 무죄 : 4·3 특별법 통과 안 되면 억울하죠. 법으로 해결 못 하면 대통령이나 국무총리나 해결 못 하지 않습니까?]
