Previously, President Yoon Seok-yeol’s special attorneys confirmed the members of the disciplinary committee at the morning meeting and immediately began preparing for the challenge.

Members of the disciplinary committee attending today’s meeting are two prosecutors appointed by Vice Minister of Justice Yong-gu Lee and Mi-ae Choo, who are alternates, and Jae-cheol Shim, Attorney General of the Ministry of Justice, and Chief from the Department of Anti-Corruption Power, Supreme Prosecutor Shin Seong-sik.

As external members, Han-jung Jeong, professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies School of Law and professor at Chonnam University School of Law, Anjin, attended and another external member was absent.

In place of the Minister of Justice Chu Miae, who cannot participate in the deliberation as a disciplinary plaintiff, Professor Jeong Han-jung acted as chairman of the disciplinary committee.

After the afternoon meeting, President Yoon’s side filed a denial request against all four disciplinary members except the head of the anti-corruption force Shin Sung-sik.

It is interpreted that Vice Minister Yong-gu Lee defended former Minister Paik Woon-gyu in relation to the suspicion of manipulation of the economic viability of the Wolseong 1 nuclear power plant, and that the head of the prosecution, Shim Jae-cheol, led the disciplinary action along with suspicion of participation in the inspection process.

It was analyzed that Professor Han-jung Jung worked on the Judicial Prosecutors Reform Committee and the Past Committee of Prosecutors in 2017, and on Professor Ahn-Jin’s past activities as the Nomination Review Committee of the Democratic Party.

However, as a result of the discussion, the disciplinary committee dismissed all challenge requests.

However, it is known that Shim Jae-cheol, the Attorney General of the Ministry of Justice, expressed his intention to ‘avoid’ and said that he would leave the committee.

As President Yoon’s request for rejection is dismissed, the witnesses are expected to decide whether to adopt it or not.

President Yoon’s side requested seven witnesses, including the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office Lee Seong-yoon, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, Han Dong-soo, and Ryu Hyeok, the Justice Department prosecutor.

Before the meeting began, reporters saw the presence of the prosecutor Sohn Jun-seong, the chief prosecutor, and the Ulsan district attorney general, Park Young-jin, who came forward as witnesses.

Some observers say that if all the requested witnesses are adopted, the questioning time will be prolonged, so a conclusion cannot be reached today and an additional timeframe can be specified.

There are five disciplinary levels that the disciplinary committee can determine: reprimand, reduction, suspension, dismissal, and dismissal.

If a disciplinary action is decided beyond the salary reduction, the President will execute the disciplinary action at the request of the Minister of Justice.
