There is a movement to expand ‘face-to-face healthcare’ based on the temporarily allowed telephone experience with Corona 19.
However, since medical associations and civic groups strongly oppose it being the start of large-scale hospitals and medical commercialization, it appears they will experience considerable pain to continue.
Reporter Han Young-kyu reports.
As the Corona 19 infection spread, the government temporarily allowed phone consultation and treatment in February.
More than 3,800 medical institutions have participated and more than 260,000 telephone consultations have been made.
On this, Kim Yeon-myeong, head of social affairs for Cheong Wa Dae, said: “I will analyze it in detail to see the pros and cons.”
Strategy and Finance Minister Kim Yong-beom said the same position.
However, the Korean Medical Association and civil society groups strongly opposed it.
The Korean Medical Association released a statement saying: “Corona 19 is an act that exploits the ongoing national disaster.”
The Citizen Countermeasures Committee, which consists of more than 500 civilian organizations such as the Democratic Union and the Health and Alternative Health, is also calling for the cessation of telemedicine, saying it will lead to medical marketing and increased medical expenses.
Also, the Democratic Party, which had opposed telemedicine by the last government, is backing down, saying it is not looking for telemedicine seriously.
However, there is a possibility that Corona 19 could be extended again, and it appears that the plan to expand ‘non-face-to-face treatment’ will continue to be discussed.
The key is to review the medical law.
It is noteworthy that the 21st National Assembly will be able to engage in reasonable discussions in the direction of strengthening public health while resolving medical concerns.
