Since the prosecution’s charge has been on trial for more than a year, the trial has continued to elude, as it has been unable to complete further investigations.

Suspicion of intervention in the Ulsan mayoral elections emerged in 2018 when former mayor Kim Ki-hyun uncovered the police suspicion and the Blue House investigation of Ha Myung.

The main suspicion is that Mayor Song Chul-ho turned over information on corruption related to former Mayor Kim, the opponent’s candidate, to the Blue House before local elections, and the Blue House sent it to the police for investigation. .

At the time, the prosecution’s investigation was shocked by the discovery in the work manual of former Deputy Mayor Song Byung-ki, who was active in the Song Mayor’s camp, discussing election strategies with Blue House officials.

The prosecution launched a large-scale investigation, such as the seizure and search of the Blue House, and in January last year, Mayor Song and 13 other people were brought to trial.

In addition to the Democratic Party lawmaker Hwang Unha, who was then head of the Ulsan Police Agency, Baek Won-woo and former Blue House secretary Park Hyeong-cheol were allegedly linked to Ha Myung’s investigation.

At the time, Blue House CEO Han Byeong-do and others were accused of encouraging career dropouts by proposing the position of president of a public company to a rival in the party’s primary career.

Immediately after the indictment, the prosecution expanded the investigation by summoning and investigating former Chief Secretary Lim Jong-seok and Civil Administration Secretary Lee Kwang-cheol.

However, after the investigation was temporarily suspended due to concerns about the impact on the elections before last year’s general election, the state of stalemate has continued for a year.

In January this year, Lee Jin-seok, head of the Blue House Office of State Affairs, was invited to investigate, but it has not been possible to conclude whether further prosecution has been carried out.

Since the prosecution’s investigation has not been completed, the trial has been in vain for more than a year without completing the preparatory proceedings for the trial.

This is due to the fact that the prosecution is showing difficulties in providing the defendants with the necessary investigation data for the exercise of their defense rights, alleging that there is a concern such as the destruction of evidence.

The trial, which had been suspended for five months due to the spread of Corona 19 and regular court greetings, will resume on Wednesday.

The court will reconcile the views of both parties on the facts of the prosecution and the adoption of evidence, and will discuss the proceedings in the future.

As the courts change, the trial preparation process continues, but it is not yet clear when the formal trial will begin, as there is a possibility that the arguments of both parties, who have faced each other for more than a year, run. parallel again.
