The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) released a press release some time ago and announced that they will temporarily suspend the national influenza vaccination project starting today (22).

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained that they found a problem in the distribution process of a vaccine procurement company.

The vaccine is intended for children 13 to 18 years of age, and to ensure quality verification we have decided to temporarily suspend immunization of all subjects.

As a result, vaccinations will be stopped for pregnant women, children under 18 years of age, and those who were previously vaccinated twice.

Vaccines with problems were immediately discontinued and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety reviewed the quality of vaccines already supplied.

The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained, however, that the vaccine in question was not a vaccine given to children with two doses that started on day 8.

The Commissioner of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), Jeong Eun-kyung, said that the suspension of the vaccination schedule will not cause confusion for medical institutions or subjects and will minimize inconvenience.

Also, while no cases of adverse reactions to vaccines have been reported to date, he said he plans to further strengthen the monitoring of adverse reactions.

Starting today, free flu shots were scheduled to begin for elementary, middle and high school students and pregnant women nationwide.

When problems were discovered in the vaccine distribution process, the vaccination schedule was interrupted.
