The goal is to achieve herd immunity by the third trimester by starting vaccination in high-risk groups, such as workers in medical institutions, between February and March of next year.

The government is drawing up a plan so that the vaccines can be vaccinated as soon as they are available from February to March next year.

First, we plan to expand vaccines starting with workers in high-risk medical institutions, then the elderly living in group facilities such as nursing homes, the elderly over 65, and those with high-risk chronic diseases.

Currently, the government-contracted vaccine is capable of reaching 26 million people, including 10 million from AstraZeneca and Pfizer, and 6 million from Janssen.

Discussions are ongoing for the first quarter supply of 10 million people who have decided to buy through the Cobax Facility.

Therefore, the government’s goal is to achieve herd immunity by giving vaccines to the majority of people within the third trimester, since it is possible to secure a significant number of vaccines in the second to third trimesters.

However, some uncertainty persists.

In addition, the government is preparing agencies for vaccination in two ways, taking into account the characteristics of each type of vaccine.

Vaccines like Pfizer that require cryogenic distribution of -60 to 90 degrees Celsius are equipped with a freezer to operate a separate vaccination center, and vaccines that can be stored refrigerated between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius are entrusted to other medical institutions to vaccination.

In addition, if an adverse reaction occurs after vaccination, the national compensation system will be applied to damages with confirmed causality.

The government plans to finalize and announce a detailed vaccination plan in January next year.
