Is the prosecution conducting a seizure search for the Ministry of Defense?

[기자]

The Seoul East District Prosecutor’s Office this morning launched a seizure and search by the Ministry of National Defense.

Prosecutors’ investigators arrived at the Defense Ministry around 11 a.m. and began a search for large-scale seizures starting at 12:30 p.m.

First, the civil petitions office was seized and searched for one hour and 20 minutes, and the information service is currently in the process of seizure and registration.

Minister Chu’s son Seo Mo served as a KATUSA soldier in 2017 and spent 23 consecutive days of private and sick vacation.

During this process, suspicions were raised that the couple and former aides made several inquiries to military officers to extend the vacation.

In a questionnaire yesterday in the National Assembly, he said he had not contacted the complaints office of the Defense Ministry regarding the extension of his son’s sick leave.

However, the transcript file to reveal the facts was found to remain on the military server.

All voice recording files that have been sent to the complaints office of the Ministry of Defense since 2015 are known to be stored on the military central server.

According to related regulations, the civil complaint registry is kept for 3 years to protect personal information, so it was removed in June from the Ministry of Defense call center’s own storage system, but found to remain in the main server.

Consequently, the prosecution’s search for seizure focuses on the Office of Civil Affairs of the Ministry of National Defense and the Computational Intelligence Service, where the relevant records remain.

The prosecution plans to protect the records to determine who is calling, if it is a simple complaint call or if it can be seen as a request or external pressure.

There was also a statement that Mr. Seo, Minister Chu’s son, requested that Mr. Choi, who was then an assistant to Mr. Chu, call the unit.

Earlier, on the 12th and 13th, prosecutors summoned and investigated former aide Choi and Seo, son of Minister Chu, respectively.

The former assistant is reported to have told the prosecution, “I did an investigation of the military unit at the request of Mr. Seo,” and that it was not a request.

It is also known that Minister Chu’s son Seo made a statement in which he claimed that nothing is illegal, while acknowledging that he had spoken with the former aide.

The prosecution is reported to have identified the details of former Deputy Choi’s calls to military officers at least three times in June 2017 regarding Seo’s vacation.

So, Mr. Seo, Minister Chu’s son, asked former Aide Choi to call the unit about his vacation, and former Aide Choi called a military officer.

Some believe that Mr. Choi may have made such a request if he had a close relationship with his son Seo, since Mr. Choi has been an assistant to Minister Chu for almost 10 years.

In response, an opposition official said in a phone call with YTN that it was not common sense for the aide to meet the son of a legislator. .

During a questionnaire about the government of the National Assembly yesterday, Minister Chu also revealed that “there was no fact that he told me the complaints that the former assistant called the military officials.”
