On the night of the announcement of the new shooting distance, a crowd gathered near Hongdae, Seoul, ignoring quarantine rules.

Wearing a mask on the chin was the norm, and when it was noticed that people like to drink, smoke and even eat in the street, the police began to dissolve, but it was not enough.

At about 10 o’clock last night, crowds gathered on the streets near Hongdae, Seoul,

[홍대 부근을 지나던 시민 : 마스크를 쓰지 않고 담배를 피운다든가, 전자담배 같은 걸 많이 피우고 있고, 음식물을 들고 많이 돌아다니더라고요. 맥주나 캔을 들고 돌아다니면서 계속 소리를 지르면서 부둥켜 안는 모습들이….]

The same goes for the situation in the alleys of Hongdae around 11pm.

When the crowd gathered so that the patrol could not pass, the police tried to disperse, but it was not enough.

Citizens who constantly observe quarantine regulations and endure pain erupt in resentment at this appearance.

[홍대 부근을 지나던 시민 : 경찰들이 나서서 먼저 해산을 권고를 하고 있는 상황이었거든요. 그런데 그게 전혀 먹히지 않고, 옆에서 왜 떠드냐 하는 식으로 비웃고….]

This happened the same night the government announced a social distancing reorganization project focused on ‘sustainable distancing’ based on autonomy and responsibility.

The reorganization plan subdivided the standard from 3 to 9 people in stages, rather than “ banning more than 5 people ” because of the number of private gatherings that were collectively enforced across the country.

As a new standard, there is no limit on the number of private meetings in Stage 1, and 8 people are allowed in Stage 2 and 4 in Stages 3-4.

Currently, in the Seoul metropolitan area, the number of people for private meetings is reduced from 5 to 9 as it is in phase 2, and the business hours limit is interpreted to disappear.

As experts warned of the side effects of the reorganization plan, concerns are being raised that parts of society are still concerned that insensitivity to security will lead to the reproliferation of infections.
