A company that made eyebrow cosmetics was arrested adding pigments that have not been shown to be safe. The company manufactured 1.26 million cosmetics over four years by manipulating related documents, and in the past some products were sold in home purchases. Reporter Kim Kyung-soo reports. Employees of the Food and Drug Administration visiting a cosmetics manufacturer in Incheon look around. We received an accusation that a pigment was used that should not be used and we went to the on-site check. The Ministry of Food and Pharmaceutical Safety has established 25 types of pigments that can be used in cosmetics, and violating them can result in a sentence of up to 3 years in prison or up to 30 million won of fine. The five pigments used by this company were not licensed and two of them were found to be harmful to the human body. Company representatives have created fake manufacturing records as if they used normal pigments. In the four years since 2014, 12 types of eyebrow cosmetics and color shampoos were manufactured in this way, for a total of 1.26 million. Some products are known to be popularly sold in home shopping in 2015 and 2016. The Food and Pharmaceutical Safety Ministry said production of these products ended in June 2018, and most expiration dates have passed. The Food and Drug Administration, which arrested the manufacturer’s representative, is reviewing administrative provisions to suspend the work of suppliers for three months.
