Military Supplied CCTV Core Parts, Suspect From China

Last year, when a North Korean wooden ship landed on the east coast without being captured by our surveillance side, the military authorities announced that they would reinforce the borders of the border area.

Thus, the proposed countermeasure was to install a national high-performance CCTV, and suspicion was raised that a company hired by the military authorities had been misled as a national after assembling only parts made in China.

Report from reporter Kim Woo-jun.

The ‘North Korean wooden ship incident’ occurred in June last year.

The military could not even realize it until the wooden boat in which the North Koreans had crossed the NLL and entered the port of Samcheok.

Criticism for the violation of the perimeter network led the military authorities to propose an important improvement.

The ‘Sea River Project’ worth 21.9 billion won in which 17 battalions of 9 divisions participate.

It means that more than 200 CCTV will be installed in major border areas, such as coastal and river areas, which can immediately detect suspicious dynamics up to 15 km away.

As you can see as part of the coastal project, CCTV pillars over 3m were installed on Freeway.

The core of this project is to build an artificial intelligence surveillance system by installing high-performance surveillance cameras on top of the CCTV pillars.

After fierce bidding competition, the military selected Company A as the operator in March.

As he was in charge of security in the border area, the military emphasized that Company A’s products were of national production.

However, there was a suspicion that the main CCTV parts were manufactured in China.

This is an image of the interior of a CCTV manufacturing plant taken in Tianjin, China, in May.

CCTV is on display with the same model name that the military decided to receive.

The cameras Company A sent to the military saying they are entering CCTV also have Chinese products with the same appearance.

When comparing a company’s products and Chinese products, even the drawings match.

As a result of the confirmation from the National Radio Research Institute, which grants the sales certification, the same model as company A’s military supply CCTV is registered at the same time as the one made in China.

Experts point to the possibility that key parts were imported from China and other countries, assembled in Korea and then handed over to the military, saying they were manufactured in the country.

In response, Company A admitted that some CCTV parts were manufactured in China.

However, he explained that the core parts, such as the cameras, were made in other countries, not China.

Regarding the fact that it is not produced in the country, it is known that there is no big problem if only the final assembly is done in the country, and this is a long-standing practice in the CCTV industry.

Army Headquarters immediately believed the company’s commercial proposition that the product was produced in Korea.

I have not checked the origin of the main parts.

That is why some are expressing the need for extensive research on the general selection process.

When the YTN coverage began, Army headquarters decided to investigate whether the country of origin was established through its own audit.
