[기자]The US Department of Defense published the number of nuclear warheads in China in its annual report to Congress.
The report predicted that “China’s nuclear warheads, currently in the early 200s, will at least double over the next 10 years due to the expansion and modernization of China’s nuclear power.”
It is the first time the Pentagon has revealed the size of China’s nuclear warhead, Reuters reported.
According to the Federation of Scientists, Russia has 4,300 nuclear warheads and 3,800 in the United States.
The US Department of Defense noted that China is completing its three nuclear forces, from land and sea to air.
The report cited the construction of warships, conventional ground-launched cruise and ballistic missiles and integrated air defense networks, stating that China has already equaled or surpassed the United States in some areas of energy modernization.
China conducted more ballistic missile tests and training last year than the rest of the world combined.
The world’s largest Chinese navy has 350 warships and submarines, more than 293 in the United States.
The report notes that China’s official defense spending last year was $ 174 billion, but R&D and foreign arms procurement could exceed $ 200 billion.
Defense spending by the United States last year was $ 685 billion, Japan $ 54 billion and Korea $ 40 billion.
The report, which emerged amid a general conflict between the United States and China, is interpreted as a use of Chinese pressure.
The United States withdrew from the ‘Mid-Range Nuclear Energy Treaty’ (INF) with Russia last year and asked for China’s involvement, but China declined to say the difference in nuclear power was too great.
