[앵커]CNN reported on a Chinese government document that said China reduced the severity of the situation in the early days of the coronavirus outbreak. I will connect with Professor Choi Jae-wook, professor at Korea University, who is the chairman of the Scientific Verification Committee of the Korean Medical Association, and listen to this story. Professor, are you with me? Hi?
[최재욱]Hi.
[앵커]CNN exposed confidential documents inside China. There is so much political conflict between the United States and China that I am concerned to what extent I should believe this. How reliable is it in your eyes?
[최재욱]In fact, there are some very difficult parts to talk about right now. However, we have been aware of the information and related data on several occasions about the situation that medical experts in the medical field, especially through Chinese medical experts, I wonder if the protected document will be a document that can confirm such parties if the authenticity of the internal document is certain.
[앵커]Once the ad has been shortened, it makes me think the initial response is bad nature. Despite the fact that the flu, which is 20 times bigger than the previous year, did not take adequate measures or took an average of 23 days to confirm the diagnosis, it is said that. What problem do you see?
[최재욱]Yes. As you said, the information that we had already learned from Chinese medical journalists increased from mid-November to patients, and there was a massive outbreak in early December, until then, I thought it was flu. There is something that I did not think was the coronavirus.
However, since mid-December, various medical circles in China, especially Wuhan, have said that this appears to be different from the existing flu and that a new infectious disease may have occurred. It was known as.
Therefore, in this part, this information was not clearly published and the risks were not shared with the international community at an early stage, so the international community did not respond effectively to this part. Symptoms Diagnosis of a patient takes about 3 weeks, with an average of 23 days.
It is a bit difficult to compare it with the current situation. CNN reports that the 23rd is the standard diagnosis in January. However, since the corona CPR test came out in January, it has been diagnosed through other flu, SARS or related tests. Also, in late January and early February, it generally took 5 to 7 days to diagnose a patient.
Now, won’t the test be out in a day? So compared to that, it was a very difficult situation at the time, but even compared to that, it took 23 days, and that part probably got worse due to worsening of those parts while the medical system in Wuhan collapsed. I think it was a very serious situation on the 23rd.
[앵커]The debate seems to continue as to where the origin of Corona 19 is. America is unconditionally called China. The Chinese government does not yet appear to have originated in China, sometimes referring to India, and other times it has occurred simultaneously in many countries around the world.
[최재욱]The most scientific and objective evidence to judge this so far is where the first patient reported to the WHO was registered. And it’s clear where the large-scale patients started and where the pattern of spread is heading.
The fact that it started in Wuhan, China and spread throughout China, and that part spread to neighboring countries, including Korea, and the world, is a part that can be confirmed through objective data and data and all data officially obtained.
I’m only talking about these parts. This Corona 19 virus, a global pandemic, must have had the first patient at the end. Wouldn’t it all start with the first patient? But the first patient will never be found. Finding scientifically is in the realm of the impossible.
With these areas of uncertainty that no one can verify, it seems that each country and each organization seems to be vindicating according to their political interests, so that part is subject to controversy. Scientifically testing this part or these parts would be very difficult. In that sense, I think that the part that goes into politicization is the part that you have to be careful about.
[앵커]Good. I think we need to analyze the internal situation. In Busan, it was announced that the quarantine will be carried out at a level equivalent to the third stage of a distance of 72 hours until the day after tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. The nationwide spread is not that serious, how would you like to drive until test day?
[최재욱]As everyone knows, environmental management is the most important. Environmental management is the environment related to the test center. We will manage disinfection and quarantine. Second, you must protect the candidates. It will be necessary to ensure that candidates do not get Corona 19 and are not further infected during testing.
It is also important to ensure that students do not have another risk of infection through social gatherings after the SAT. First of all, the most important thing at this time is that the most important thing for each parent is to manage the areas of the home that can protect the students as much as possible while avoiding places where there is a risk of additional contact or infection from students and parents.
[앵커]I’ll be nervous until I take the math proficiency test, so I don’t think there’s anything special about it, but after the end, I can’t push the feeling of release like I actually said, and it spills out onto the streets. Is it possible to reach 1000 people a day doing really bad?
[최재욱]Of course, there is a danger arising from the increase in social gatherings for these students now after the SAT. So, we must try to minimize that part, according to the data published by the quarantine authorities, the Infectious Reproduction Index is approximately 1.43. If the 1.43 level continues now, and if this part widens, we are concerned that it is a number that will result in 700 or 1000 patients after 1 to 2 weeks.
Looking at the current situation, haven’t 400 patients been kept for about 3 days? So after upgrading to step 1.5, it’s important for the next two to three days to see how effective social distancing works. The expansion trend can be classified into three categories: whether the expansion trend increases, stagnates or decreases in the current situation.
Quarantine authorities now expect to be stagnant, and if this part persists a bit longer, quarantine authorities are thinking that if combined with the social distancing effect, we can expect a decline. In general, I agree.
However, I think it is probably possible to reach the level of congestion that I can tell you about quarantine in the medical field. However, to bring this to a marked decline, strengthening social distancing is also important, and practicing this part is also important. You need to take more fundamental steps on how to control it.
Let me tell you that additional countermeasures need to be prepared for such areas. If this part is preceded, it is expected that it may lead to a decrease.
[앵커]Good. Jaewook Choi, chairman of the Scientific Verification Committee of the Korean Medical Association, was a professor at Korea University. Professor Choi, thank you for today.
[최재욱]thanks.
