Keller’s Parents Want Answers After Kids Return Home From Church Camp With COVID-19

Tarrant County parents are looking for answers after several children tested positive for COVID-19 after returning home from a Keller’s church summer camp.

“You just released 300 kids in Keller, Southlake and other community churches, and maybe some kids don’t talk to their kids like my daughter does and they didn’t tell their parents that several other students tested positive for the virus,” Keller’s Stephanie Brady told KXAS-TV (NBC 5).

Brady’s daughter is among several Keystone Church campers who tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from camp July 6-10, according to NBC 5.

The Carroll ISD Management Center in Southlake, Texas on Tuesday June 23, 2020.

The report said parents were notified while the camp was still running that a student was sent home the first day after it was discovered that they had been exposed to COVID-19 through a relative. Two days later, that caravan tested positive for the virus.

On Tuesday, a WFAA-TV (Channel 8) journalist tweeted that the Latham Springs Retreat and Camp Center, about 75 kilometers south of Fort Worth, responded to the outbreak by temporarily closing for two weeks.

Brady and other parents are questioning the COVID-19 protocols of the camp in light of the photos posted on social media of campers who do not wear masks or social distancing. In some, campers were shown wearing masks around their necks and attending a packed concert.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Keystone Church said it “takes seriously the physical, spiritual and emotional health of our community and of those who consider Keystone Church their home.” If any camper was exposed, the parents or guardians of the exposed camper were notified immediately in accordance with the guidelines of the Texas State Department of Health and the CDC.

“Keystone Church has always prayed and will continue to pray, invest and serve our community.”

Tarrant County reported 663 new cases on Tuesday, bringing its total of confirmed positives to 22,665. The county has delayed the start of on-campus classes for schools until at least September 28.
