Jordan Groggs from injury reserve dead at 32

Jordan Groggs, the rapper known as Stepa J. Groggs in the injury reserve of the Arizona hip-hop trio, died, according to a Twitter post by the group. He was 32 years old.

Groggs met fellow rapper Ritchie with a T at the Vans store where Groggs worked and which was owned by Ritchie’s mother. The couple eventually found a young producer, Parker Corey, whose focus on hip-hop production helped push the group toward their signature sound. The trio formalized as Injury Reserve in 2013. Without much of a rap scene in their hometown, Injury Reserve first developed and attracted a local audience by performing alongside punk and indie acts at shows around the campus of State University of Arizona.

Injury Reserve released their first mixtape Live from the dentist’s office in 2015. They followed it a year later with another mixtape, 2016 Loose silk. They released their self-titled debut in the studio last year. On Twitter, Injury Reserve also shared a GoFundMe page to support the Groggs family, including their four children.
